The nut of the starter motor's positive connection can loosen so that the contact surface oxidises. This causes poor contact and can result in the starter motor not cranking.
The following action should be taken upon customer complaint.
Symptom description
Starter motor does not crank.
40-304 221 005 Universal oil (enough for approx. 200 cars)

Detach the negative cable from the battery.
|
2.
|
Detach the positive cable from the starter motor.
|
3.
|
Clean the starter motor contact surfaces, nut and positive cable connection. Use a brush and universal oil.
|
4.
|
Connect the positive cable to the starter motor.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)
|
5.
|
Connect the negative cable of the battery.
|
6.
|
Adjust the time and date in SID.
|
7.
|
Check the function of the starter motor.
|
8.
|
If the starter motor does not work, carry out fault diagnosis following "WIS - 3. Electrical system - Start system - Fault diagnosis, fault symptom - Starter motor does not work".
