Cleaning the cooling circuit

Cleaning the cooling circuit

Connect flushing equipment 87 91 824 to the cooling circuit in the opposite direction of flow.

Note

Important

Always use protective gloves. Incorrect connection can damage the gearbox, as the fluid filter includes a non-return valve preventing the fluid from circulating in the gearbox. Neither will the cooler be cleaned.

1. Lubricate the sealing surface of the adapter plate with Texaco Texamatic DEXRON III (7045 EU, TL1863 US) mineral based fluid and fit a new fluid filter (part no. 91 44 445).

2. Connect one of the hoses in the kit to the outlet on the bottom of the adapter plate (opposite to the fluid filter).

3. Raise the car and remove the left-hand air shield.

4. Detach the delivery hose from the lower/rear gearbox outlet and connect it to the connector on the side of the adapter plate (inlet).

5. Detach the return hose from the upper/front outlet on the gearbox and connect the hose fitted to the bottom of the adapter.

6. Couple together the return hose from the cooler with the rest of the hoses in the kit and connect it to the lower/rear connector on the gearbox.

7. Fill the gearbox with fluid, start the engine and check the integrity of the connections.

8. Apply the handbrake and depress the brake pedal.

9. Move the selector lever to position D and let the cleaning process progress for 5 minutes.

10. Detach the hose from the lower/rear connector on the gearbox and separate the joint between the hose from the cooler and the hose from the cleaning kit.

11. Detach the cleaning kit hose from the lower/rear connector on the gearbox and instead connect the return hose from the cooler. Replace the seals with new ones.

Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

12. Detach the delivery hose from the outlet on the side of the adapter plate (inlet) and connect it to the lower/rear gearbox outlet. Replace the seals with new ones.

Tightening torque: 27 Nm (20 lbf ft)

13. Make sure the hoses are not resting on the subframe. Fit the air shield and lower the car.

14. Check the engine oil and transmission fluid levels and top up as necessary.
