Clutch

Clutch

Power from the engine's flywheel is transferred to the input shaft of the gearbox via a driven plate. This is achieved by the pressure plate, which is bolted to the flywheel, pressing the friction surface of the driven plate against the flywheel.

The spring damped hub of the driven plate is connected to the primary shaft through splines. When the release bearing on the slave cylinder presses on the "fingers" of the diaphragm spring, they act as levers to release the pressure exerted by the pressure plate on the driven plate-flywheel. In this way, the engine is disengaged from the gearbox.
