Outer drive-shaft universal joint

Outer drive-shaft universal joint

The outer universal joint transmits the torque from the drive shaft to the hub and wheel. The drive shaft has a stub axle which is connected to the hub with splines. The universal joint is of Rzeppa type and is shaped like a clock with spherical grooves where six balls transmit the power from the drive shaft to the hub.

The drive shaft is connected to the outer universal joint with splines and is secured axially with a circlip. The universal joint is permanently lubricated and is protected by a rubber gaiter. The universal joint is only lubricated when the gaiter is replaced or if the universal joint is dismantled for another reason.
