Rear-wheel sensors

To remove



1. Raise the car and remove the wheel.

2. Press the brake pistons back, using a pair of slip-joint pliers.

3. Remove the brake caliper's two retaining bolts. Remove the brake pipe from the clips. Use a cable tie to hang the brake caliper up out of the way.

4. Back off the adjustment for the handbrake shoes (accessible through a hole in the brake disc).

5. Remove the lever return spring.

6. Detach the handbrake cable from the lever.

7. Remove the brake disc retaining bolts and take off the brake disc.

8. Separate the wheel sensor connector.

9. Remove the four wheel-hub nuts.

10. Remove the wheel hub, back-plate and spacer.

Separate the wheel hub from the back-plate.


To fit



1. Clean the contact surfaces using a wire brush.

2. Fit the back-plate, spacer and wheel hub using new nuts.

Tightening torque 50 Nm +30 (37 lbf ft +30)

3. Fit the brake disc on the hub and tighten the retaining bolt, using a torque wrench and threadlocking adhesive.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

4. Connect the handbrake cable to the lever.

5. Fit the return spring on the lever and plug the connector into the wheel sensor.

6. Fit the brake caliper and tighten the retaining screws using thread locking compound (Loctite 242, part no 74 96 268).

Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 lbf ft)

7. Press the brake pipe securely in the clips.

8. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the adjuster until the brake disc is blocked.

9. Then screw the adjuster back until the brake disc can rotate freely.

10. Fit the wheel, see Wheels. . Lower the car.

Tightening torque 110 Nm (81 lbf ft)

11. Depress the brake pedal to press out the brake pads.
