Vacuum pump, mechanical

To remove

Important

Use compressed air to blow the area round the hose and pipe connections clean before undoing same.

Cover the holes after detaching the hoses and pipes.

1. Remove the upper engine cover, three catches.

2. Detach the hose from the turbo pressure sensor.

3. Undo the bolt securing the bypass pipe to the turbo intake pipe.

4. Remove the bypass valve from the charge air pipe.

5. Undo the hose clips on the throttle body and charge air hose.

6. Undo the bolt securing the charge air pipe to the bracket on the cylinder housing and remove the pipe.

7. Remove the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump by pressing in the red ring and pulling the hose outwards.

8. Unplug the ignition discharge module's electrical connections.

9. Loosen the battery and move it as far forward on the battery tray as possible.

10. Remove the pump lubrication banjo bolt. Collect the oil spill.

Note

Position of vacuum pump and shaft relative to the groove in the camshaft.

They must be in the same relative positions on reassembly.

11. Undo the 3 bolts securing the pump.

Remove the pump, pulling outwards.

To fit

1. Lubricate the O-rings and fit them in place. Fit the pump.

Make sure that the shaft and pump are correctly positioned relative to the camshaft.

Fit and loosely tighten the banjo nipple.

2. Fit the three retaining bolts loosely.

3. Tighten the banjo bolt.

Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 lbf ft)

4. Tighten the pump retaining bolts, first the two attaching the pump to the cylinder head and then the one attaching it to the strut.

Tightening torque: 22 Nm (16 lbf ft)

5. Connect the vacuum hose.

6. Plug in the ignition discharge module's electric connections.

7. Wipe off all oil.

Note

Inspect the O-ring on the throttle body and change it if necessary. To make fitting the O-ring easier, it could be coated sparingly with vaseline, part no. 300 66 65.

8. Carefully connect the turbo delivery pipe to the throttle body and secure it with the bolt for the bracket on the cylinder head.

Tighten the hose clamp on the throttle body.

9. Connect the bypass valve and tighten the bypass pipe's bolt to the turbo intake pipe.

10. Fit the cover.

11. Fit the battery.

12. Check the functionality of the brake servo.
