Incorporated in the brake fluid reservoir filler cap is a level switch (on the Viggen it is built into the reservoir). It consists of a float and two contacts. When the float moves down as the fluid level drops, the contacts close and the brake fluid warning light comes on (this happens when the level has dropped about one-third of the way down from full). When the ignition is switched on the lamp is grounded by the generator and remains on continuously. When the engine starts and the generator charges, the lamp goes out if the fluid level is OK. This also serves to check the warning lamp each time the ignition is switched on
