Brief description

SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) is a complement to the car's seat belts and considerably increases safety in the event of a serious collision.

All Saab 9-3s are equipped with a driver airbag. The Saab 9-3 is also equipped as standard with a belt tensioner and side airbag on both the driver and the passenger side. A passenger airbag is available as a factory-fitted option.

The airbag on the driver side is installed in the steering wheel, while the passenger airbag is located in the dashboard above the glove box. The belt tensioners are located in the b-columns.

The entire system is controlled by a control module. This module responds when a collision occurs and sends a current pulse to the electric detonators, causing the airbags to inflate. Side collisions are signalled by sensors located in the doors.

The seat belts for the front seats are equipped with pyrotechnical tensioners which tighten the belts in the event of a collision.

To reduce knee injuries and to prevent the driver from sliding in under the dashboard in the event of a collision there is a knee guard below the dashboard on the driver side. Cars with a passenger airbag have a knee guard on the passenger side as well.
