New coolant, long life |
Cars affected |
9-3 M01- with chassis numbers 12052690 -
9-3 CV and Viggen M01- with chassis numbers 17017854 -
Background |
A new coolant has been introduced into production from and including the above chassis number. For production related technical reasons it has been introduced just before the year's model changeover. The coolant does not need to be changed during the lifetime of the vehicle. It is orange coloured so that it can be easily distinguished from the previous green coolant.
The new coolant may be mixed with the old but then looses its "long life" qualities and becomes more purple coloured. As the cooling system cannot be 100% drained, in the event of a replacement with the new coolant, the normal replacement interval shall apply to all vehicles which originally had the green coolant. After existing stocks are cleared the old coolant will no longer be available.
Materials |
16-83 95 824 Coolant (208 litres)
40-400 131 389 Coolant (1 litre)
40-400 131 397 Coolant (4 litres)
Procedure |
If a vehicle has the new coolant it is important not to top up or refill the cooling system with the previous green coolant as the new orange coolant has better rust inhibiting properties.
There are no technical constraints to using the new coolant in a system which contains the previous coolant. Note however that the coolant will become more purple coloured.
