Brief description
Brief description |
General General |
The exhaust system is designed to carry away the engine's exhaust gases and ensure minimum through-flow resistance, low noise level and long service life.
The exhaust system consists of four parts:
• |
Front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter
|
• |
Intermediate pipe
|
• |
Front silencer
|
• |
Rear silencer
|
The front silencer is of absorption type on all engine versions while the rear silencer is of absorption type for the turbo engine and of reflection type for fuel injection engines.
The entire exhaust system is corrosion protected, all system components being made of chromium steel of varying chromium content for the different components.
All engine versions have a cast exhaust manifold.
The joints are of flange type (ball joints) with a two-part clamp tightened with 2 bolts. This makes for easy replacement and ensures a good fit. The clamp undergoes deformation on fitting and should therefore be changed every time the joint is undone. No joints have gaskets except the one between the front exhaust pipe and exhaust manifold.
Mounting |
The exhaust system is mounted at seven points. To give good ground clearance, the exhaust system is positioned in a floor tunnel.
