The accelerator is connected with a cable to the throttle position sensor. The sensor then communicates electrically with the PSG 16 control module.
The throttle position sensor's function is to convert the driver's request from an accelerator position to an instruction that the engine management system control module can understand and process.
Inside the throttle position sensor there is a potentiometer which varies the voltage on the control module sensor inputs depending on the throttle position sensor shaft angle. The throttle position consists of a resistance coil and carbon brushes. The brushes are fitted on the throttle position shaft and move across the resistance coil in relation to the shaft movement.
When the position sensor angle is less than approximately 9°, the idle switch is open. The idle switch closes when the position sensor angle is greater than approximately 9°.
