Main lighting
Main lighting |
It is turned on with the light switch in position 2 and the ignition in position OFF, ON, or ST. Switching between main and dipped beams is done with the dipswitch, the lever to the left of the steering wheel.
With the ignition in the position OFF, ON or ST, a voltage +X is supplied from the ignition switch to pin 1 on the light switch. When the light switch is turned to position 2, the power is fed to the dipped beam relay (8) from pin 4 and also to DICE pin 15 so that the DICE will know the position of the switch. The DICE grounds the relay (8) and current is then supplied to the filament monitor (228b) and on to the fuses (6 and 7) and the dipped beam lamps(12).
The dipswitch controls the main beams in two different ways: flash; with the dipswitch in the spring-loaded position and main beam; with the dipswitch in the fixed position. In both cases the dipswitch lever is pulled towards the driver.
The main beam is controlled by switch (215) and the dipswitch (10). If the dipswitch is in position 0, +30 is fed through the switch (215) directly to the filament monitor (228b) and the fuses (8 and 9) and on to the main beams (11). The main beams will remain switched on when switch (10) is in position 2. DICE (628) then grounds the relay (8) which supplies power to the main beams via the filament monitor (228b) and fuses (8 and 9).
If the light switch is in position 0 or 1 and the ignition is held in position ST, the dipped beam relay will trip after 20 seconds.
When the light switch is in position 2 and the ignition is ON, DICE outputs “Main lights ON” to the bus. The message is used by SID to switch on the instrument lighting. The light intensity is determined by the rheostat value (0-100%).
The light switch positions operate different lighting modes depending on how DICE is programmed. There are 3 different program alternatives. The reason for this is that different markets demand different lighting modes. When implementing program alternative 1, fuse 15 must be removed.
When the ignition is ON, the 3 alternatives are:

If main beam is on and the ignition is turned to position OFF, or if the light switch is turned to any other position, the main beam is switched off and must be turned on again.
When the ignition switch is OFF, the same programming functions are applicable for all markets. In position 0 and 2, no lights are on. In position 1, the parking lights are on.

When changing a bulb, use one with the right output otherwise the components could be damaged. |
