Grounding points
Grounding points |
General
There are two main types of grounding point in the car: those that carry a component number, and those with which a component is grounded straight to the chassis, e.g. temperature sensors, oil-pressure sensors, etc.The car battery is grounded via two cables. One cable has a cross section of 25 mm 2 and goes straight to the gearbox (grounding point G25).
The other has a cross section of 16 mm 2 and goes to grounding point G2, which is located behind the battery on the left-hand wheel housing.
For radio interference suppression there is a plaited grounding strap between an engine bracket and the body.
Note that owing to the differences between market variants some of the grounding points enumerated above may be lacking on certain cars.
A given component may be connected to different grounding points depending on whether the car has left-hand or right-hand drive. This is indicated in the pertinent system chart.
