Primary shaftThe input shaft rotates clockwise and is connected to the rear planetary gear train's (P1) ring gear by clutch C1. The result is that the input shaft and the rear planetary gear train's ring gear rotate clockwise at the same speed.
Clutch C2 connects the input shaft and the sun wheel together so that they rotate clockwise as a unit. The inner planet gear does not rotate.
The entire primary shaft (planetary gear trains, P1 and P2) and the driving intermediate gear rotate clockwise as a unit.
Secondary shaft
Since the driving intermediate gears rotate clockwise, the driven intermediate gear and the lower planetary gear train's (P3) ring gear rotate anticlockwise as a unit.
Clutch C3 connects the planet carrier and sun wheel together.
The planetary gear train's ring gear, sun wheel, planet carrier and final drive pinion rotate anticlockwise as a unit at a higher speed than in 2nd gear.
