Adjusting the soft top cover

Adjusting the soft top cover

A Soft top cover fore-and-aft and lateral adjustment

The soft top cover can be adjusted fore-and-aft, laterally and vertically. The adjustment is done to provide a pleasant appearance and a correct fit between the body and the boot lid.

The different adjusting points are detailed below. The order in which the adjustments are done depend entirely on the soft top cover adjustment when the work begins.

1. Lateral and vertical adjustments are done at the hinge mounting to the body. Loosen the bolts and adjust.

2. Adjustment fore-and-aft is done at the soft top cover mounting to the hinges. Loosen the nuts and adjust so that the clearance between the soft top cover and the boot lid front edge is approximately 8 mm.

B Lock fittings lateral adjustment

1. Loosen the nuts that secure the lock fittings to the soft top cover.

2. Fold down the soft top cover and adjust the lock fittings (A) so that they strike the middle of the lock (B).

3. Tighten the nuts that secure the lock fittings.

C Locks fore-and-aft and lateral adjustment

Important

This adjustment is very important since the lock fitting can hook onto the lock which means that the lock pin in the soft top cover drive mechanism can break.

Important

Locks must always be adjusted on both sides at the same time.

1. Remove Rear side trim, CV on both sides.

2. Manoeuvre the soft top cover as shown in the illustration.

3. Loosen the nuts that secure the lock to the body.

4. Attach special tool 82 93 797 Adjustment tool, soft top cover in the latch fitting and lower it as shown in the illustration.

Important

Special tools are different for the left-hand and right-hand sides. These tools can only be used on the correct side.

5. Operate the hood cover so that the latches engage on both sides.

6. Adjust the soft top cover so that the alignment with the body is correct. Tighten the lock's nuts.

Tightening torque : 24 Nm

7. Raise the soft top cover and remove the special tools.

8. Manoeuvre the soft top cover up and down a few times in order to check its function.

9. Fit the Rear side trim, CV.

Important

Check the lock pin in the drive mechanism. If the pin is broken, the soft top cover will behave almost normally since the friction in the joint can be sufficient to operate the cover. In such cases, the soft top cover will “crack” when closing.

D Soft top cover lock cables

1. Adjust the cables so that the lever on the soft top cover drive mechanism is horizontal when the lock is locked.

2. Check that the distance between the cable adjustment and the cable end is at least 2 mm.

3. Adjust the cable using the cable adjustments by the locks.

4. Check that the locks open completely.
