Noise from A-pillar

Fault symptoms

Noise from A-pillar

Perform the appropriate procedures listed below in order to rectify fault symptoms.

Procedure 1

Symptom : Scraping noise

Cause: Hinge bolts are too long and scrape against the A-pillar.

Cars affected: X7020086-X7052902


1. Replace the old bolts for shorter bolts, part no. 51 25 315.


Procedure 2

Symptom : Creaking noise from the lower section of the A-pillar.

Cause : Insufficient spot-weld through three plates.


1. Drill a 7 mm hole through the two outer plates on the spot-weld which are located:


1.a. 120 mm from centre of bolt head on door stop.

1.b. 23 mm from the plate flange

2. Plug weld as shown in the illustration.

3. Grind the welds.

4. Apply primer to all ground surfaces.

5. Apply anti-corrosion agent internally after painting. Use Terotex HV 400.


Procedure 3

Symptom : Creaking noise from the right-hand side

Cause : Inner metal bracket can come into contact with the inner reinforcement.

Cars affected : X7020086-


1. Remove the door.

2. Remove the lower hinge bolt.

3. Construct a tool according to the illustration.


4. Insert the tool through the bolt hole.


5. Hook onto the metal bracket and pull it out approx. 10 mm.

6. Fit the hinge bolt.

7. Fit the door.


Procedure 4

Symptom : Creaking noise

Cause : Insufficient junction plate welds.


1. Remove the scuff plate.

2. Remove the carpet.

3. Unplug the wiring harness.

4. Check that the junction plate welds are whole. If necessary, perform the following procedure:


5. Grind the surfaces requiring welding.

6. Weld the edge where the junction plate is loose.

7. Grind the welds.

8. Apply primer to all ground surfaces.

9. Apply anti-corrosion agent after painting. Use Terotex HV 400.

10. Connect the wiring harness.

11. Fit the carpet.

12. Fit the scuff plate.


Procedure 5

Symptom : Creaking noise

Cause : Plate corners come into contact with the outer A-pillar


1. Remove Dashboard

2. Insert the curved tool through the hole as shown in the illustration.


3. Bend the plate corner inwards.

4. Apply anti-corrosion agent after painting.

5. Fit the dashboard .


Procedure 6

Symptom : Creaking noise

Cause : Clip marking at A-pillar flange with uneven edges

Cars concerned : - 27013325


1. Remove Dashboard

2. Grind the surfaces requiring welding as shown in the illustration.


3. Seam weld as shown in the illustration.

4. Grind the weld.

5. Apply primer to all ground surfaces.

6. Apply anti-corrosion agent after painting. Use Terotex HV 400.

7. Fit the dashboard .
