Engine mounting, left-hand

To remove


1. Place drapes over the wings to keep the paintwork clean and protect it from damage. Raise the car.

2. Remove the lower engine cover.


3. Slacken the screws securing the clamps holding the power steering pipe to the subframe.


4. Fit 83 96 152 Centring kit, engine to the subframe. See Centring tool, engine and subframe .


5. Undo the rear bolts securing the torque arm.


6. Lower the car and remove the upper engine cover.

7. Remove the battery cover, cooler pipe and battery.


8. Remove the cover and vacuum tank, etc., and bend aside the cover.


9. Press in the catch and remove and move aside the power steering fluid reservoir and bracket.

10. Unplug the bonnet switch connector and remove the battery tray.

11. Remove the ground cable from the engine mounting and disconnect the reversing light switch connector.


12. Place a 83 94 850 Lifting beam and 83 95 287 Holder over the engine and take its weight.


13. Remove the engine pad bolts from the gearbox bracket.


14. Remove the engine pad bolts from the body. To remove the front lower bolt, lower the engine on the lifting beam. Raise the car and using a pry bar, carefully move the engine to the right. Remove the bolt from below.


15. Lower the car. Remove the engine bracket and engine pad.


To fit


1. Place the engine pad in position.

2. Fit the gearbox bracket; insert three of the engine pad bolts at the bracket.

Tightening torque, bracket 35 Nm + 90° (26 lbf ft +90°)


3. Raise the car and using a pry bar to improve access, insert the lower engine pad bolt. Lower the car and tighten the engine pad bolts.

Tightening torque 15 Nm + 30° (11 lbf ft + 30°)


4. Raise the engine to the level of the engine pad using the lifting beam.

5. Raise the car and adjust the centring drift guide bolts until the slits on the bolts are visible.

6. Lower the car and fit the bolts securing the engine pad to the bracket.

Tightening torque 70 Nm + 45° (52 lbf ft + 30°)

7. Remove the lifting beam.

8. Plug in the reversing light switch and fit the ground cable to the engine pad.


9. Fit the battery tray and plug in the bonnet switch connector.


10. Fit the power steering fluid reservoir and bracket.

11. Fit the cover with vacuum tank, etc.

12. Fit the battery, cooler pipe and battery cover.


13. Fit the upper engine cover.

14. Raise the car and remove 83 96 152 Centring kit, engine from the subframe.


15. Fit the screws securing the clamps holding the power steering pipe to the subframe.


16. Tighten the rear bolts securing the torque arm.

Tightening torque 70 Nm + 90° (52 lbf ft + 30°)


17. Fit the lower engine cover.


18. Lower the car and remove the wing protectors.

19. Carry out Procedures after reconnecting the battery .
