To remove |
1. |
Remove the upper engine cover.

Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
|
3. |
Remove the vacuum hose from the turbocharger regulator and from the heat exchanger and bend the hose out of the way.
|
4. |
Slacken the 2 rear bolts on the turbocharger but leave them in place.
|
5. |
Raise the car.
|
6. |
Remove the front bolt from the turbocharger.
|
7. |
Remove the 2 nuts from the bracket on the catalytic converter.
|
8. |
Remove the bolts of the catalytic converter mounting.
|
9. |
Remove the 3 nuts from the joint between the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
|
10. |
Lower the car.
|
11. |
Remove the nuts from the turbocharger.
|
12. |
RHD cars:
Disconnect the fuel pipes from the fuel filter.
|
13. |
Remove the catalytic converter.
|
To fit |
1. |
Lubricate the studs with
30 20 971 Screw-thread paste
and fit the catalytic converter using a new gasket.

2. |
RHD cars:
Connect the fuel pipes to the fuel filter.
|
3. |
Fit the 2 rear nuts on the turbocharger.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft) |
4. |
Raise the car.
|
5. |
Fit the bolts to the rear mounting.
|
6. |
Fit the nuts to the joint between the front exhaust pipe and the catalytic converter; use a new gasket.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft) |
7. |
Fit the nuts to the mounting on the catalytic converter.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft) |
8. |
Fit the front nut to the turbocharger.
Tightening torque 25 Nm (18.5 lbf ft) |
9. |
Lower the car.

10. |
Connect the vacuum hose to the turbocharger regulator and heat exchanger.
|
11. |
Fit the turbocharger heat shield.
|
12. |
Fit the upper engine cover.
|
