Brief description B207L

Petrol engine

The engine is a water-cooled, 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol-driven in-line engine of aluminium with 4 valves per cylinder, 2 overhead camshafts and 2 balancer shafts integrated in the cylinder block.

The engine is integrated with the gearbox to one unit and is mounted transversely in the engine bay. It is crossflow type, i.e. the inlet is located on one side of the combustion chamber and the exhaust on the opposite side. Steel cylinder liners are pressed into the engine block. The forged and induction hardened crankshaft is supported in five main bearings integrated in one common bedplate.

For low sound levels and compact size, the coolant pump drive is integrated in the balance shaft chain circuit. The power steering pump and vacuum pump for brake force amplification is driven directly via the camshafts.
