Alternator, 4-cyl petrol

To remove


1. Remove the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery cable.


2. Raise the car.

3. Remove the lower engine cover.


4. Place a receptacle under the car, connect a hose to the radiator and drain the coolant.

5. Remove the plastic nuts from the wheel arch liner.


6. Move aside the wheel arch liner, unload the belt tensioner and take off the belt (mark the belt direction). Use 83 96 095 Unloading tool, belt circuit B207E/L .

7. Lower the car.

8. Remove the upper engine cover.


9. Unplug the connectors from the engine control module.


10. Remove the engine control module.


11. Detach the air hose from the air filter housing.


12. US and B207R : Detach the SAI hose.

13. Remove the cover of the air filter housing.

14. Remove the air filter.


15. Unplug the connector from the pressure sensor.


16. Detach the intake air pipe from the air filter housing and lift up the filter housing.

17. Detach the coolant hose from the engine and radiator. Bend it aside.


18. Detach the vent hose from the air hose to the throttle body and loosen the fastener in the camshaft cover.


19. Bend aside the vent hose.

20. Detach the alternator connections.

21. Remove the alternator retaining bolts.

22. Lift up the alternator; see illustration.



To fit


1. Position the alternator correctly; see illustration.


2. Fit the alternator retaining bolts.


Tightening torque 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

3. Attach the alternator connections.

4. Fit the vent hose fastener to the camshaft cover.

5. Fit the vent hose to the throttle body air hose.

6. Fit the coolant hose to the engine and radiator.


7. Fit the intake air pipe to the air filter housing.


8. Plug in the connector to the pressure sensor.

9. Put the air filter in place.


10. Fit the air filter housing cover.


11. US and B207R: Fit the SAI hose.

12. Fit the air hose to the air filter housing.

13. Fit the engine control module.


14. Plug in the engine control module connectors.

15. Fit the upper engine cover.


16. Raise the car.

17. Move aside the wheel arch liner and unload the belt tensioner. Use 83 96 095 Unloading tool, belt circuit B207E/L and fit the belt (be certain it is fitted in the correct direction)


18. Fit the plastic nuts on the wheel arch liner.

19. Fit the lower engine cover.


20. Lower the car.

21. Connect the negative cable of the battery.


22. Fit the battery cover.

23. Reset the car; see Procedures after battery disconnection .

24. Top up with coolant and bleed the cooling system following Bleeding the cooling system .

25. Check the battery when replacing, see Battery Check and charge the battery, see Charging the Battery if necessary
