The battery is discharged after the car has been left stationary
When the ignition key is turned from ON to OFF a voltage drop is registered via the MUTE cable from the handsfree installation for the audio system. This signal is interpreted as a MUTE signal which means that the audio system is set in undefined status. The audio system will be active even if the display is switched off after the ignition has been turned to the OFF position.
Handsfree kits (HF-5) manufactured after 30 March 2004 have been rectified.
Note
There is no date marking on the HF-5 kits.
9-3 M03 with Nokia handsfree (HF-5) installed.
9-5 M06 with Nokia handsfree (HF-5) installed.
The battery is discharged after the car has been left stationary for a couple of days.
Note
This problem is not noticed if the car is used regularly.
1.
Connect a multimeter.
Note
When measuring low values, smaller variations of measurement values may be displayed depending on the measuring equipment.
2.
Lock the car and wait for about 20 minutes.
3.
Measure the car's standby current. Should normally be 10-15 mAmp when the car is in parked position.
If the value is 310-320 mAmp then it is likely that the handsfree kit is defective, continue with step 4.
4.
Disconnect the handsfree kit.
5.
Remove the fuse for the audio system, wait for two minutes and refit the fuse.
6.
Reset the audio system.
7.
Measure the car's standby current again.
Note
After a reset it is not certain that the fault shows up first time. Turn the ignition key ON/OFF three times to be certain that the value is correct.
8.
If there is evidence of a fault with the handsfree equipment:
Recommend Saab's handsfree kit or the purchase of a new Nokia handsfree kit.
Note
Nokia handsfree (HF-5) must have been manufactured after 30 March 2004 for the problem to be rectified. However, there is no date marking on the HF-5 kits.
