Cars affected

Saab 9-3 (9440) M03

Only affects cars rectified in accordance with MI 365-2376 (issue 1) and cars where the ICM unit has been replaced or SPS programmed.

Background

When downloading the latest software for ICM the program's parameters for number of days and mileage up to service were affected.

Symptom description

The message "TIME FOR SERVICE" is displayed in SID at an incorrect point in time.



Procedure

Note

In order to perform this work the following special tools are required:

- Tech 2 with 32 Mb card (version 105.000 or later)

- PC with TIS2000 installed (version 2002-6 updated with updating files Ed2002-6_Update1.exe , Ed2002-6_Update2.exe and later (if available), the files are obtainable via IRIS)

- CANdi box

- Dongle with adapter

- PC cable with RS232 adapter



1. Read off and note the Vehicle Identification Number.

2. Connect Tech 2 and turn the ignition key to the ON position.

3. Check that the time and date in SID is set correctly, adjust if necessary.

4. Check if there is a service indication in SID.

- Press the CUSTOMIZE button in the SID (SID control panel).

- Select “System settings” in the menu followed by “Service Info”.

- Note if there is a service indication. The option "Reset Service Ind" is displayed in SID when service indication exists. The service indication must not be reset to zero.

5. Only petrol-driven cars with service indication: Read oil quality with Tech 2, note the value

- Choose Diagnose

- Choose Model Year(s): 2003

- Choose Vehicle Type(s): Saab 9-3 Sport (9440)

- Choose All

- Choose Service

- Choose Service Data

- Choose View Service Data

- Choose Remaining Oil Life , note the value.

6. Cars with service indication: Reset the service indication in SID.

- Press the CUSTOMIZE button in the SID (SID control panel).

- Select “System settings” in the menu followed by “Service Info”.

- Select “Reset Service Ind”.

- Select "YES", press the INFO knob (SET); the message is reset.

7. Obtain Security Access info using Tech 2.

- Choose Diagnose

- Choose Model Year(s): 2003

- Choose Vehicle Type(s): Saab 9-3 Sport (9440)

- Choose All

- Choose Get Security Access

- Follow the instructions in Tech 2.

Note

Tech 2 can be connected to car and PC at the same time during the entire adjustment.


8. Connect Tech 2 with the dongle to the COM port of the PC.

9. Start TIS 2000 and choose Security Access , then choose:

Diagnostic Tool: Tech 2

Validate Vehicle Identification Number and choose Next

TIS 2000 then displays "Security Access Type 1 available", choose Close

10. Add ICM using Tech 2

- Choose Diagnose

- Choose Model Year(s): 2003

- Choose Vehicle Type(s): Saab 9-3 Sport (9440)

- Choose All

- Choose Add / Remove

- Choose Control Modules

- Choose ICM

- Choose Add , follow the instructions and answer the questions.

11. Only petrol-driven cars with service indication: Reset oil quality with Tech 2.

- Choose Diagnose

- Choose Model Year(s): 2003

- Choose Vehicle Type(s): Saab 9-3 Sport (9440)

- Choose All

- Choose Service

- Choose Service Data

- Choose Advanced Service Functions

- Choose Remaining Oil Life .

- State Remaining Oil Life , use the value noted in item 5.

12. Detach Tech 2 from the data link connector.
