Description

The telephone system in the vehicle is available in three options: Tel 1, Tel 2 and OnStar.

With option Tel 1 the vehicle is equipped with infotainment system 1 and has provisions for the connection of an external mobile phone to the system via a connector on the dashboard. The keypad on the external telephone must be used when dialling numbers. Telephone conversations are effected via the roof panel microphone and the normal audio system loudspeakers.

With option Tel 2 the vehicle is equipped with infotainment system 2 or 3. Tel 2 incorporates an integrated telephone and ICM 2 and 3 have a screen for displaying selected telephone functions. A communication unit, mounted under the parcel shelf, accommodates a SIM card and is also connected to the microphone, roof antenna and radio. Switches on the steering wheel can be used to make and answer telephone calls, adjust the volume or to search through, and select numbers from, the three conversation lists. Telephone conversations are effected via the roof panel microphone and the normal audio system loudspeakers. Tel 2 also has the option of voice control of the telephone, telephone book and the SMS message service.

The OnStar option has the same telephone system as Tel 2 but with additional tele-communication functions (data communication via the mobile telephone network). Drivers of vehicles in the USA can, with the help of OnStar, get guidance from a variety of services and emergency assistance in the event of an accident. In order to contact OnStar it is only necessary to push the OnStar button on the instrument panel and the system then connects the vehicle to OnStar and contact is made with personnel who can help with a variety of services. The system automatically calls the emergency centre in the event of a collision in which the air bag has been triggered. The position of the vehicle can be established with the help of GPS and thus the emergency services can quickly reach the scene of the accident.

The communication unit, radio and control panel communicate with each other via the O-bus. The communication unit has a flash memory, which means that additional features can be SPS programmed at a later date.
