Cars in stock must be rectified before delivery.

A personal communication must be sent to the owners of cars already delivered requesting them to get in touch with the nearest Saab garage as soon as possible to have the fault rectified.

Saab 9-3 (9440) 4D M03-M05 within the following Vehicle Identification Number ranges:

31000001 - 51009118, markets JP, KR and HK

31000001 - 51010756, markets CN and MY

31000001 - 41063612, other markets



Saab 9-3 (9440) CV M04-M05 within the following Vehicle Identification Number ranges:

46000001 - 56001354, markets JP, KR and HK

46000001 - 56004286, markets CN and MY

46000001 - 46019651, other markets

Background

Fluxing agent residue may cause corrosion of the key's battery spring. This can result in contact not being made between the spring and the battery.

Procedure


1. Check which of the previously used keys shall be replaced:

1.a. Remove the emergency key.

1.b. Note the last 3 digits, see illustration.


1.c. JP, KR and HK: Are the last 3 digits 288, 370 or 978?

YES: The key is OK and must not be replaced.

NO: The key must be replaced.

1.d. CN and MY: Are the last 3 digits 287, 371 or 977?

YES: The key is OK and must not be replaced.

NO: The key must be replaced.

1.e. Others: Are the last 3 digits 289, 369 or 979?

YES: The key is OK and must not be replaced.

NO: The key must be replaced.

Note

One of the previously used keys must be used for key programming. When the programming is completed then only the new keys, together with used keys that are OK, must be programmed to the car.


2. If none of the used keys are OK :

2.a. Carry out the key programming and add one of the used keys together with one of the new keys. See WIS - 9-3 (9440) - 3. Electrical system - Theft protection - Adjustment/Replacement - Programming keys.

Note

Before new key programming can be started at least 5 minutes must have elapsed since the start of the first programming.


2.b. Start new programming with only the two new keys, see WIS - 9-3 (9440) - 3. Electrical system - Theft protection - Adjustment/Replacement - Programming keys.

Note

Only the two new keys must be programmed for the car when programming is completed.


3. If one or more of the used keys are OK :

3.a. Carry out the key programming and add the used keys that are OK together with the new keys. See WIS - 9-3 (9440) - 3. Electrical system - Theft protection - Adjustment/Replacement - Programming keys.

Note

When the programming is completed then only the new keys, together with used keys that are OK, must be programmed to the car.


4. Check that only the keys that are OK belong to the car.

The number of programmed keys is shown in SID if the boot opening switch on the remote control is pressed when the ignition is in the "ON" position. The car must be stationary.
