Power steering delivery line, RHD

To remove


1. Raise the car.

2. Remove the spoiler shield.

Diesel engine: Remove the lower engine cover.


3. Remove the front bumper shell .

4. Diesel engine: Remove the lower mounting of the charge air pipe and the hose from the intercooler.


5. Remove the left-hand air shield.

6. Lower the car to the floor.

7. Diesel engine: Remove the upper engine cover.


8. Clamp the return hose using 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers .

Diesel engine: Clamp the intake hose to the power steering pump using 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers .

9. Remove the pipes from the bracket on top of the steering gear. Leave the screw and clamp in place.


10. Diesel engine: Remove the turbocharger's charge air pipe and the hose.


11. Diesel engine: Place a receptacle under the pump.

Important

Power steering fluid must not come in contact with the belt pulley or belt.


Petrol engine: Wipe up any fluid spill with a cloth.

12. Disconnect the deliver pipe's banjo nipple from the pump and plug the pipe.

13. Petrol engine: Cut off the cable tie holding the wiring harness to the pipe and remove the clip holding the delivery pipe to the bracket.


Raise the car.

14. Remove the front circuits mountings from the radiator bracket.


15. Remove the clamps securing the pipe to the subframe.


16. Remove the steering gear bolts.


17. Remove the rear bolts and stays from the subframe. Pull down the rear edge of the subframe and place wedges between the frame and body.

18. Remove the heat shield from the steering gear.

19. Place a suitable receptacle under the steering gear.

20. Disconnect the delivery pipe from the steering gear and plug the pipe.

21. Bend down the pipe under the subframe.

22. Feed the cooling circuit out under the subframe.


To fit


1. Feed the cooling circuit in between the body and subframe.

2. Fit the cooling circuit loosely by its right-hand mounting to the radiator member.


3. Fit in the rear pipe between the gearbox and the subframe. Remove the plug and connect the pipe to the steering gear using a new O-ring.

Note

Make sure the pipe is correctly positioned by the bracket on top of the steering gear.


Tightening torque 28 Nm (21 lbf ft)


4. Fit the heat shield to the steering gear.

5. Fit the clamps to the subframe and the bracket on the left-hand side of the radiator member. Fit everything loosely at first before tightening.


6. Remove the wedges and fit the stays and rear subframe bolts on both sides. Enter the rear bolts of the stays before tightening the subframe bolts.

Use 83 95 311 Trolley lift and 83 96 137 Removal and fitting tool, subframe to position the subframe.

Tightening torque 75 Nm +90° (55 lbf ft +90°)

Lower the trolley lift and move it away.


7. Fit the steering gear.

Tightening torque 50 Nm +60° (37 lbf ft +60°)

8. Tighten the rear bolts on the stay.

Tightening torque 90 Nm +45° (66 lbf ft +45°)


9. Turn up the delivery pipe towards the power steering pump.

10. Lower the car to the floor.

11. Fit the clamp to the bracket on the top of the steering gear.


12. Fit the banjo nipple to the power steering pump. Use new washers.

Tightening torque 32 Nm (24 lbf ft)


13. Petrol engine: Secure the wiring harness to the delivery line using a cable tie and fit the clip holding the delivery line to the bracket.

Remove the pinch-off pliers.

14. Diesel engine: Fit the charge air pipe and the hose.

15. Diesel engine: Fit the upper engine cover.

16. Raise the car.

17. Fit the lower bracket for the charge air pipe and connect the hose to the charge air cooler.


18. Fit the left-hand air shield.

19. Fit the bumper shell .

20. Fit the spoiler shield.

Diesel engine: Fit the lower engine cover.


21. Lower the car to the floor.

22. Fill with power steering fluid and bleed the power steering system .

23. Check for leaks.
