Power steering pump, diesel

Important

Scrupulous cleanliness must always be observed during all work with hydraulic components.


To remove


1. Raise the car.

2. Remove the front right wheel.

3. Remove the right-hand wheel arch liner.


4. Remove the lower engine cover and spoiler shield.

5. Remove the bolt holding the charge air pipe of the turbocharger to the radiator.


6. Detach the lower charge air hose from the charge air pipe and move the hose aside.

7. Lower the car to the floor.

8. Remove the upper engine cover.


9. Remove the charge air pipe of the turbocharger as well as the upper charge air hose.

10. Pinch the intake hose to the power steering pump and the return hose with two 30 07 739 Hose pinch-off pliers .


11. Place a suitable receptacle under the pump.

Important

Power steering fluid must not come in contact with the belt pulley or belt.


12. Remove the intake hose and the delivery pipe's banjo nipple from the pump.


13. Prise the engine to the left and fit a wedge between the engine and the structural member.


14. Raise the car.

15. Slightly loosen the belt pulley bolts.


16. Unload the belt tensioner. Detach the belt and put it to the side.

17. Remove the belt pulley.


18. Cover the A/C compressor's belt pulley with a plastic bag.

19. Remove the power steering pump. Collect any fluid spill.


To fit

Note

The spare part pump has a locking pin that holds the pump housing together. Keep the locking pin in place in the pump when fitting.



1. Clean the contact surface between the pump and the engine.

2. Spare part: Remove the protective cover from the pump carefully so that it does not fall apart. Use a finger to hold the spring-loaded plunger in.


3. Fit the pump.

Note

The compression spring in the pump must be centred at the lug in the pump housing.


Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 lbf ft)

4. Lower the car to the floor.

5. Fit the intake hose to the pump. Fit the clamp on the hose and press the hose on the pipe while pressing the clamp to the max. open position.


6. Fit the delivery pipe's banjo nipple to the pump. Fit a new seal.

Tightening torque 32 Nm (24 lbf ft)

7. Fit the belt pulley and bolts.

Note

Check that there is no fluid on the belt pulleys.



8. Unload the belt tensioner and fit the belt in place.

9. Tighten the belt pulley bolts.

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 lbf ft)

10. Lower the car to the floor.

11. Fit the charge air pipe of the turbocharger as well as the upper charge air hose. Fit the bolt holding the charge air pipe (turbocharger - charge air pipe) to the radiator (upper) without tightening it.


12. Raise the car.

13. Fit the lower charge air hose to the charge air pipe. Fit the bolt holding the charge air pipe of the turbocharger to the radiator.


14. Clean all fluid spill.

15. Fit the wheel arch liner.


16. Fit the spoiler shield and the lower engine cover.


17. Fit the wheel. See Wheels .

18. Lower the car to the floor.

19. Tighten the bolt of the upper charge air pipe mounting (turbocharger - charge air pipe).

20. Remove the wedge and the pinch-off pliers.

21. Fit the upper engine cover.


22. Top up with fluid, bleed the power steering system .
