Body design

The characteristics of the finished car are determined by the choice of body design. The Saab 9-3 Sport Saloon body is characterized by a high torsional stiffness, a stable cabin frame, large deformation zones front and back and very effective side impact protection.

There are many advantages to this design:

It is easier to optimise the chassis characteristics and thereby the car's road performance.

Impact safety is extremely high thanks to the stable cabin enclosure and the large, energy-absorbing deformation zones.

It is easier to insulate the cabin from engine vibrations and road noise while reducing the risk of creaks and rattles.

Great pains have been taken to test the body design down to the smallest detail. Collision and corrosion tests, tests in climate and sound labs and thousands of kilometres of test drives were all used to develop the body to its end form. In order to ensure that car characteristics are not changed or impaired by body repair, it is of the utmost importance that work is performed correctly with the right material.
