Water leak front/rear floor on right side of the passenger

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3 (9440).

BACKGROUND

Customer complains of wet carpets on the right side and the leak is hard to localize.

CONDITIONS

Body sealant is badly applied on both out and inside of the corner where the fire wall, the RH A-pillar and the RH fender meet.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

The carpet on the front as well as the rear floor R side can be soaking wet even though the leak is at the RH A-pillar. The water follows the A-pillar down to the front floor and flows rearwards underneath the carpet and its insulation to the rear floor which is lower positioned than the front floor.

ACTION

Check the RR corner of the engine compartment (pic. 1) for missing sealant.

Check also the A-pillar (behind glovebox) from the passenger foot well side (pic. 2) or behind the fuse box on RHD cars.

If one or both is bad; Remove the old sealant, clean the surfaces and apply new sealant.
