Fault symptom
Starter motor cannot be started.
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
Enable criteria:
| US/CA Manual gearbox: Clutch pedal depressed. | 
| Automatic transmission: P or N engaged. | 
Fault criteria:
| When voltage on the output exceeds 2.0 V for more than 1 s. | 
Dependent:
System reaction to a fault:
OK report:
| Fault criteria NOT fulfilled for 2 s with engine running. | 
Fault handling:
| Type III without Check Engine. |

Checking the wiring harness
Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
