Saab 9-3 Sport models up to VIN:

41011608 (Sport Saloon)

46003610 (Convertible).

Important: Cars built before VIN 31034481 RHD (31034464 LHD), follow the actions starting at step 1. Cars built after above VIN please follow the below actions starting from step 2.

BACKGROUND

Cars up to the VIN’s listed below may suffer from handbrake difficult to release due to insufficient stroke on the release button (trigger)

CONDITIONS

Parts Required:

Screw 79 63 937 x 1

Screw 79 75 535 x 1

ACTION

Step 1

Replace the handbrake handle with P/N 12802419 (see T/A GB-03-019)


Step 2 - Locking the Sleeve

1. Remove the driver's seat according to WIS.

2. Dismantle the centre console side panels as per WIS to gain access to the handbrake lever.

3. Wind back the handbrake cable adjustment, at the coin holder, (see below) as necessary to release the tension on the cables. Raise the handbrake lever as high as possible.


4. Force the white housing forwards in direction of arrow as shown.

5. Drill a 3 mm hole 22 mm down from the back edge of the front white peg at position shown


6. Clean away debris with compressed air and fit screw P/N 79 63 937

Note: Picture shows LHD handbrake configuration



Step 3 - Locking the Ratchet

1. Push the tooth segment of the ratchet as far back as it will go (towards rear of car)


2. Drill 2.5 mm hole in position shown. Ensure there are no cracks in the aluminium part and fit screw 79 75 535. If the housing is cracked the complete handbrake assembly should be replaced.

Step 4

1. Re -assemble the handbrake and adjust according to WIS

2. Test the release button function by applying the handbrake 4-6 clicks and push down on the lever with a force of 100N (10 Kg) at the same time operating the release button 2 times as hard as possible.

After this test has been carried out there should be sufficient play in the trigger for the handbrake to operate normally. If the release mechanism is not correct the handbrake assembly should be replaced.

3. Re-assemble the centre console panels and seat as per WIS instruction.
