Fault diagnosis, hydraulic unit TCS/ESP |
Cars affected |
Saab 9-3 (9440) M03-
Background |
A method for fault diagnosis for internal leaks in the hydraulic unit has been developed. The method is being introduced in WIS 2004-4.
Parts required |
Cylindrical pin with 6 mm diameter and minimum length of 50 mm or bolt M6x60 mm (x2).
Suitable O-ring e.g. 6 x 1.25 mm (x2).
Procedure |
1. |
Thread the O-rings onto the bolts/pins. If bolts are used then the O-ring must be fitted above the thread. The O-ring is used for position marking.
|
2. |
Remove both rubber plugs on the hydraulic unit.
|
4. |
Get a colleague to start the car.
|
5. |
Depress the brake pedal and then release it after a short time.
|
6. |
Check whether any of the pins/bolts move up/down. Repeat the procedure a couple of times.
|
7. |
If movement can be detected in any of the pins/bolts then there will be leakage in the unit's valves. Replace the hydraulic unit in accordance with WIS Brakes - TCS/ESP - Adjustment/Replacement - Hydraulic unit.
|
8. |
If none of the pins/bolts move then the fault is in another of the brake system's components. Remove the pins/bolts and refit the rubber plugs before continuing fault diagnosis.
