Background

If a customer complains of cosmetic corrosion on the exposed portion of their wheel bolts, the following procedure can be carried out.

Symptom description

Surface rust on wheel bolts.



Parts required

12 771 404 Wheel bolt caps (x20) including removal tool

High pressure grease paste, Gleitmo 805, 100 g tube (sufficient for about 10 cars) or similar

Procedure

Instead of replacing corroded bolts, lubricate all bolt heads with Gleitmo 805 to fight corrosion while facilitating installation/removal of the wheel bolt caps.


1. Lubricate the bolt heads with Gleitmo 805.


2. Fit the protective caps to the wheel bolts.

3. Place the removal tool in the glove box.


4. Inform the customer that the removal tool is in the glove box.
