Cooling system, filling and bleeding
Cooling system, filling and bleeding |
Instruction: use only antifreeze specified in the technical data, Cooling system and make sure the concentration is 50% water and 50% antifreeze. Antifreeze is not only used to protect the entire cooling system from freezing, it is also designed to protect all the components that the coolant comes in contact with from corrosion/lime deposits. Therefore, it is recommended to use antifreeze even in tropical climates.
Besides the concentration, the water quality also plays an important role. Freshwater that can be used for drinking normally fulfils the quality requirements. Regenerated seawater does not possess the required quality! Damage to the engine can also arise from the use of antifreeze that has not being approved!
When changing the radiator, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket, the old coolant must not be reused!
Important: cars with air-conditioning: turn of the air-conditioning. Cars with ECC: set to ECO mode (if available)
1. |
Open the cooling system
Warning: the cooling system is pressurised Unscrew the coolant equalising container cap |
2. |
Fill with coolant
Coolant equalising container Important: when the entire cooling system is empty (including the heater): fill the coolant equalising container up to the filler connection and open the quick coupling on the inlet of the heater system (left seen in the direction of travel), until coolant runs out. to the marking KALT/COLD |
3. |
Close the cooling system
Screw on the coolant equalising container cap |
4. |
Start the engine and leave it running
Instruction: run engine with the following cycle 1x: 30 seconds - 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm, 5 seconds idling, 30 seconds - 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm. Warm up the engine and idling speed until the radiator fan stage 1 cuts in. Run the engine with the above cycle 1 more time. The cooling system will be bled while the engine is warming up. |
5. |
Switch off the engine
Let the engine cool down |
6. |
Check the coolant level.
Coolant equalising container Instruction: to the marking KALT/COLD - fill with coolant as necessary |
