Coolant temperature

Coolant temperature

The coolant temperature gauge provides the driver with information on the engine coolant temperature.

The coolant temperature gauge is an integrated part of the main instrument unit and is controlled by its microprocessor.

The engine control module sends continuous information on the bus concerning the coolant temperature.

The coolant temperature gauge scale is divided into 5 fixed breakpoints.

The main instrument unit is programmed to control the gauge needle to the fix breakpoints at certain specified temperatures in order to give a stable reading at normal coolant temperatures.

The following break points are programmed in the main instrument unit (factory setting):

Gauge needle: Coolant temperature
starts to move 50 °C (122°F) (fixed value)
into "horizontal" position 80°C (176°F)
out of "horizontal" position 115 °C (239°F)
into "red" zone 129 °C (264°F) ("ENGINE COOLANT HOT" shown on SID)
out of "red" zone 133 °C (271°F) (fixed value)
