Pedal request

Pedal request

The pedal position sensors comprise two potentiometers that are supplied with 5V from control module pin 39(B) and 55(B). The sensors are grounded from control module 40(B) and 56(B).

The voltage from sensor 1 is connected to control module pin 8(B) and increases when the pedal is depressed, approx. 0.5-4.5V.

The voltage from sensor 2 is connected to control module pin 24(B) and increases when the pedal is depressed, approx. 0.3-2V.

The control module uses the value from sensor 1 as an indicator of the driver's torque request. The value is converted into requested air mass/consumption and constitutes the most important input signal for air mass control.

The value from potentiometer 2 is used to check potentiometer 1. Unless these values agree, a DTC will be generated and the pedal sensor will go to limp-home mode. When the pedal is fully released, the control module will adapt the voltage from sensor 1.

With the accelerator pedal fully released, the requested air mass/combustion = 0 and if also vehicle speed = 0, idle speed control will be activated. The lowest value from sensor 1 is adapted as fully released pedal and consequently gives idling speed.
