Background

The bypass valve diaphragm is currently available as a separate spare part. To replace the bypass valve diaphragm, use the following methods.

Removing the bypass valve diaphragm


1. Remove the mass air flow sensor connector and the hoses.


2. Remove the air cleaner casing cover and the intake hose to the turbo.

3. Remove the hose from the turbo's bypass valve.


4. Unscrew the valve's cover, hold the cover firmly when the screws are removed.

5. Lift the cover away and replace the parts.



Fitting the bypass valve diaphragm


1. Clean the cover and the turbo from gasket residue.

2. Fit the diaphragm kit as illustrated.


3. Fit the cover to the turbo. Use the new screws and the new gasket. Apply a thin layer of non-acidic Vaseline to the cover, to retain the gasket.

Tightening torque 8 Nm (6 lbf ft).


4. Fit the hose to the turbo's bypass valve.

5. Fit the air cleaner casing cover and the intake hose to the turbo.


6. Connect the mass air flow sensor connector and fit the hoses.

7. Check the bypass valve, see the instructions below.

8. Remove the wing cover.


Checking the bypass valve


1. Detach the vacuum hose from the bypass valve.


2. Connect 30 14 883 Pressure/vacuum pump, and create a vacuum in the valve.


3. Check that the diaphragm is intact. If the diaphragm is damaged then the vacuum is released.

4. Pump up an overpressure in the valve.

5. Check that the diaphragm is intact. If the diaphragm is damaged then the overpressure is released.

6. Detach the pump.

7. Connect the vacuum hose.
