Generator, remove and install, Z18XE

To remove


1. Open the bonnet.

2. Disconnect the battery

- Detach the ground cable

3. Raise the car.

4. Remove the plastic nuts from the wheel arch liner and move it aside.


5. Remove the multi-groove belt:


- Tension the multi-groove belt tensioner in the direction of the arrow - Use KM-913-A or a 15 mm articulated wrench (2)

- Insert KM-6130 or a 4.5 mm drift (1)

- Mark the direction of rotation.

6. Remove the multi-groove belt tensioner:


- Tighten the multi-groove belt tensioner - Remove KM-6130 (2)

- Release the multi-groove belt tensioner

- Undo the bolt (1)

7. Undo the alternator's bracket:


- Unplug the wiring harness from the oil pressure switch (3)

- Undo the nut (2)

- Undo the bolt (1)

- Undo the lower bolt (4)

8. Lower the car.

9. Remove the protective engine cover:

- Unscrew the oil filler port cap

- Undo the bolt

- Screw on the oil filler port cap

10. Remove the air filter housing (1):


- Unplug the wiring harness from (2) heating element - mass air flow sensor

- Detach the wiring harness (arrows)

- Remove the engine vent hose (3)

- Remove the intake hose (4)

11. Remove the tank purge valve:


- Unscrew the bolt (arrow)

- Detach the line (2) - 83 95 261 Fuel line tool (1)

- Unplug the wiring harness connector (3)

12. Remove the alternator belt:


- Unscrew the upper bolt

- Unscrew the lower bolt

- Remove the alternator's wiring harness - Unscrew 2 nuts (1)

Note: Remove the generator upwards with the generator's attaching plate

13. Remove the alternator bracket:

- Undo the bolt


To fit


1. Fit the alternator bracket:

- Screw in the bolt

Note: Do not tighten the bolt

2. Fit the alternator:

Note: Position the generator from above with the generator's attaching plate

- Fit the alternator's wiring harness - Tighten the nut

- Screw in the upper bolt

3. Raise the car.

4. Fasten the generator's attaching plate

- Tighten the bolt - Tightening torque 35 Nm

- Tighten the nut - Tightening torque 35 Nm

- Wiring harness connector to the oil pressure switch.

5. Fit the multi-groove belt tensioner

- Tighten the bolt - Tightening torque 35 Nm

6. Lower the car.

7. Fasten the generator

- Tighten the bolt - Tightening torque 20 Nm

8. Fit the tank purge valve

- Tighten the bolt

- Plug in the wiring

- Plug in the wiring harness connector

9. Fit the air filter housing

- Fit the intake hose

- Fit the engine vent hose

- Plug in the wiring harness connector

- Fasten the wiring harness

10. Raise the car.

11. Fit the multi-groove belt:

Note: Note the direction of rotation and installation position

- Tension the multi-groove belt tensioner - Use KM-913-A or a 15 mm articulated wrench

- Insert KM-6130 or a 4.5 mm drift

- Slacken the multi-groove belt tensioner - Use KM-913-A or a 15 mm articulated wrench

- Remove KM-6130

12. Fit the multi-groove belt's guard:

- Tighten the bolt

13. Lower the car.

14. Fit the protective engine cover:

- Unscrew the oil filler port cap

- Tighten the bolt - Tightening torque 8 Nm

- Screw on the oil filler port cap

15. Connect the battery.

16. When changing, check battery, see Battery check and charge battery if necessary, see "Charging the battery".

17. Carry out Procedures after disconnecting the battery .

18. Close the bonnet
