Description

To make it easier for the driver to reverse the vehicle towards objects, the car can be equipped with parking assistance, SPA, "Saab Parking Assistance" . SPA is available as an option.

The four distance sensors use ultrasound to measure the distance to the object behind the car. They are located in the rear bumper and are named as follows:

Left outer distance sensor (RL)

Left centre distance sensor (RLC)

Right centre distance sensor (RRC)

Right outer distance sensor (RR)

SPA gauges and indicates the distance to the object closest to the back of the vehicle. A distance value is transmitted as a bus message. ICM activates the audio system, which indicates the distance via audio signals in the front speakers.

As the vehicle reverses closer to the object, the signals will become more frequent. In this way, the driver can avoid damage when reversing, e.g. when parking.

SPA is activated when reverse gear is engaged and is only active for as long as reverse is kept engaged. Information is sent via a bus message from UEC (342), the Underhood Electrical Centre, (manual gearbox) or TCM (automatic transmission).

The control module is connected to the I-bus and is woken up by CIM with a bus message when the ignition is switched on. It is located on the left in the luggage compartment on the Rear Electrical Centre, REC, (701) and is powered from there.
