Saab 9-3 DT and DTH M05 - M09 up to VIN 91025174.

BACKGROUND

It has been found that the engine cable harness can rub inside of the corrugated sheathing which could create different functionality or driveability issues if the insulation of the cables is damaged. The picture shows area of concern where corrugated sheathing sits above transmission.


CONDITIONS

Due to more vibrations in diesel cars, the body and engine vibrates at different frequency, and at the first cable strap, a lot of tension has to be absorbed which will create the harness to vibrate and rub/chafe inside the tube.

A production solution, where the corrugated hose, was replaced with TESA sleeve, (same as DTR) was introduced during M09 from VIN 91025174.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

Damage could occur where the cable harness goes from body to engine at the first cable strap, see picture. Cables that are included in the harness and which function that could be affected, are shown in the table below.

ACTION

Cut the cable strap and remove the tape, open the sheathing protection and inspect all cables for damage. If the insulation is damaged and the copper is visible, then remove cable insulation close to the damage and inspect cable for corrosion/oxidation Cut the affected cable if necessary and replace with new.

Use the Saab wiring repair kit with shrink tube on the splice. Add tape for chafe protection on the harness before installation in the corrugated sheath.
