Differential gear, removal and fitting |
To remove |
Note | ||
The gearbox remains in place. |
1. |
Remove the drive shafts. See
Drive shaft, removal and fitting F17
|
2. |
Remove the differential cover (1) from the gearbox (10 bolts). Place an oil tray underneath to collect the oil which runs out.
|
3. |
Mark the position of the bearing ring (2) with respect to the gearbox (arrowed).
|
4. |
Remove the bearing housing cover (3). See service procedure
Bearing housing cover gasket, replacement F 17
.
|
5. |
Mark the position of the bearing ring relative to the gearcase. Remove the locking plate (1) from the bearing ring with KM-447 or
87 92 889 Fitting tool, bearing ring to differential F17
(2). Remove the differential gear downwards out of the gearbox.
|
To fit |
Screw the bearing ring into the gearcase with 87 92 889 Fitting tool, bearing ring to differential F17 or KM-447 (4). Align the bearing ring with the previously scribed mark.
Check the play in the taper roller bearings of the differential and adjust if necessary. See Procedure for taper roller bearing adjustment, differential gear, F17 .
Fit the bearing housing cover. See Bearing housing cover gasket, replacement F17 .
1. |
Using a new gasket, fit the differential cover (1) to the gearbox (10 bolts). Tightening torque 18 Nm. Fit the drive shafts. See
Drive shaft, removal and fitting F17
|
2. |
Fill the gearbox with oil and check the oil level by means of the level plug (arrowed). See
Gearbox oil level, checking and correcting F17
.
