Noise from contact between damper and first bow (CV) |
VEHICLES CONCERNED |
Saab 9-3CV MY04 - MY06 (46000001 - 66106218).
BACKGROUND |
Customer complaints on noise from the rear of the car when driving.
CONDITIONS |
Soft top is folded down and tonneau cover closed.
SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION |
Noise can be heard when driving on rough roads.
ACTION |
The first two model years had a damper that was so hard it might cause a noise when there is a small relative movement between tonneau cover with it's damper and the side part of the first bow.
On cars between 66005063 and 66106217 the white single damper 12 831 294 was replaced by a foam block 53 33 398. Later on we found out that there was a risk of contact between the first bow and the tonneau cover in the front end. To prevent noise form this second contact point another foam block was added on each side.
If a customer comes to the workshop complaining on noise from this area you should replace the old damper with two foam blocks or add one more block if the car is equipped with only one foam block. The first block shall be put in the same position as the old white one. The other block shall be placed further forward under the tonneau cover so it will contact the rear end of the first bow when the top is folded down.
Check the photo for positions.
