Place the camshaft housing on a bench or in a vice.
|
3.
|
Remove the oil filler pipe with gasket.
|
4.
|
Remove the vacuum pump with gasket.
|
5.
|
Remove the camshaft position sensor.
|
6.
|
Check that the camshaft end float is within recommended limits using a dial gauge.
|
7.
|
If the camshaft end float is outside recommended limits, replace all worn components with new ones.
|

|
Remove the bolts for the camshaft gear.
|
10.
|
Remove the timing belt pulley from the exhaust side.
|
11.
|
Remove the adjustment tool from the camshaft housing.
|
12.
|
Loosen the camshafts just enough for the camshaft gear to be taken out.
|
13.
|
Use a suitable drift and knock loose the camshafts. Retain the plug and seal.

Lubricate the camshafts with engine oil and lay them in the camshaft housing.
|
2.
|
Fit the camshaft gears on the camshafts without tightening.
|
4.
|
Tighten the bolts for the camshaft gears.
Tightening torque 120 Nm (89 lbf ft).
|
5.
|
Fit the front camshaft seal. Use fitting tool 1.870.896.800.
|
6.
|
Fit the camshaft plug on the inlet side.
|
7.
|
Fit the exhaust side timing belt pulley without tightening.
|
8.
|
Fit the camshaft position sensor.
Tightening torque 9 Nm (7 lbf ft).
|
9.
|
Fit the vacuum pump complete with new gasket.
Tightening torque 5 Nm +50° (4 lbf ft +50°).

10.
|
Fit the oil filler pipe with a new gasket.
Tightening torque 9 Nm (7 lbf ft).
|
11.
|
Remove the camshaft housing from the vice.
|
