Valve clearance check and adjustment, Z19DT

Valve clearance check and adjustment, Z19DT

1. Remove the upper engine cover and insulation.

2. Unplug the connector from the mass air flow sensor.

3. Remove the hose from the mass air flow sensor and the intake manifold.

4. Remove the air cleaner casing.

5. Detach the vacuum pipe from the camshaft cover.

6. Detach the crankcase ventilation hoses from the camshaft cover.

7. Remove the camshaft cover.

8. Turn over the engine using a ratchet spanner on the crankshaft and check the valve clearance when the camshaft lobe is pointing up (180° from the valve stem) using a feeler gauge.

9. Measure and note the valve clearance of all valves in the same way.

10. The valve clearance must be adjusted if outside tolerances.

Valve clearance, inlet valve (mm) 0.25 - 0.35
Valve clearance, exhaust valve (mm) 0.30 - 0.40

11. Adjust the valve clearance by changing the valve adjusting washers to the right thickness.

12. Make sure the camshaft lobe is pointing up (180° from the valve stem) and use 32 025 035 Valve compressor to carefully press down the valve tappet.

13. Secure the valve tappet using 32 025 036 Valve fixing tool .

14. Remove the valve adjusting washer with two small screwdrivers. Measure with a micrometer or read off the thickness of the washer (the bottom of the washers are marked).

Example: Valve clearance is 0.1 mm too small, fit washer that is 0.1 mm thinner. Valve clearance is 0.1 mm too large, fit washer that is 0.1 mm thicker.

15. Fit new washers with right thickness, turn the washer with the marking on the bottom, press down carefully with the valve compressor and remove the special tool.

16. Turn over the engine so that the camshaft revolves a whole turn and check that the valve clearance is correct.

17. Fit the camshaft cover with a new gasket.

Tightening torque 9 Nm (7 lbf ft).

18. Fit the crankcase ventilation hoses with clips to the camshaft cover.

19. Fit the vacuum pipe.

20. Fit the air filter housing.

21. Fit the hose to the mass air flow sensor and the intake manifold.

22. Plug in the connector to the mass air flow sensor.

23. Fit the insulation and the upper engine cover.
