Timing cover

To remove


1. Remove Camshaft covers, removed engine .

2. Remove the coolant port. Remove the seal and O-ring.


3. Remove the front and rear solenoid valves of the variable camshaft. Remove the seals.

4. Remove the front and rear position sensor of the camshaft.

5. Remove the coolant pump pulley.

6. Remove the belt tensioner and screw.

7. Remove the bolt holding the crankshaft pulley using 83 95 360 Holding tool, crankshaft pulley (handle only) and EN-47981 Pulley holding tool .

Note

The pulley is pressed onto the crankshaft.



8. Remove the pulley using EN-47982 Puller , EN-47981 Pulley holding tool and 83 95 360 Holding tool, crankshaft pulley (handle only)


9. Remove the timing cover. Use a pry bar to carefully pry loose the cover plus a screw that is carefully screwed in as illustrated (to press the cover loose).


10. Clean sealing surfaces of gasket residue and the like.


To fit


1. Apply a 2 mm thick bead of 93 160 951 Flange sealant on the sealing surface as the timing cover as illustrated. Fit a new seal at the coolant pump.


2. Fit the timing cover.

Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 lbf ft)


3. Fit the pulley to the crankshaft. Use KM-J 41998 Fitting tool to press the pulley into place.


4. Fit the bolt using 83 95 360 Holding tool, crankshaft pulley (handle only) and EN-47981 Pulley holding tool .

Tightening torque: 100 Nm + 150° (74 lbf ft + 150°)


5. Fit the belt tensioner and the screw


6. Fit the coolant pump pulley using a screwdriver as a holding tool.

Tightening torque: 12 Nm (9 lbf ft)

7. Fit the front and rear camshaft position sensors using new seals.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

8. Fit the seals and the front and rear solenoid valves of the variable camshaft.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

9. Fit the coolant port using a new seal and O-ring.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

10. Fit Camshaft covers, removed engine .
