Unnecessary replacements of Xenon bulbs

VEHICLES CONCERNED

Saab 9-3 and 9-5 with Xenon lights.

BACKGROUND

OK Xenon bulbs have been wrongly replaced.

CONDITIONS

Perfectly functioning Xenon bulbs have been replaced as customers have complained about a colour difference between the two bulbs after one has been replaced.

SYMPTOM DESCRIPTION

When this type of discharge bulb gets older a thin coating will cover the inside of the bulb. This coating will slightly change the visible colour spectra of the light from "white" to "blue" during it’s first year and some customers will observe this colour difference when the headlamps are turned on.

ACTION

There is no need to replace a Xenon bulb because of the colour difference between left and right bulb. The lighting quality is at the same level for both the new bulb as well as for the old bulb, despite the slight difference in colour. As the new bulb gets older the colour difference will decrease.

No warranty claims will be accepted for unnecessary replacements of Xenon bulbs.
