Checking/Adjusting the fluid level

Note

The oil level must only be checked together with the oil temperature, see Tech2, after repair work on the gearbox, oil loss, shifting problems or power transmission problems after shifting, and must be adjusted as necessary. Ensure that only gearbox oil suitable for AF40 is filled.


Filling/Checking


1. Place the car on a lift. Make sure it is as level as possible. Engage P and apply the handbrake. If using a ramp, chock the wheels. Connect to an exhaust extractor.

2. Remove the filler plug (A).


3. Start the engine and run it at idling speed.

4. Connect Tech2.

5. Run the engine until the temperature is 70°- 80°C according to the "Read values" TCM menu.

6. Raise the car. Engine at idling speed.

7. Diesel: Remove the lower engine cover.

8. Position a receptacle under the gearbox and remove the oil level tube's plug (A). (At the correct oil level 0.3-0.4 litres of oil flows out.) Engine at idling speed.


9. Lower the car. Engine at idling speed.

10. Fill gearbox oil through the oil filler hole. See Weight, torque, fluid capacity and grade of fluid until about 0.2 litres flows out from the oil level tube. Engine at idling speed.

11. Raise the car. Engine at idling speed.

12. Wait until the oil stops flowing out of the oil level tube and fit the plug (A) with a new seal (B). (C) shows the oil level. Engine at idling speed.

Tightening torque, level plug 8 Nm (7 lbf ft)


13. Diesel: Fit the lower engine cover.

14. Lower the car to the floor.

15. Switch off the engine.

16. Fill 0.4 litres of gearbox oil through the oil filler hole. See Weight, torque, fluid capacity and grade of fluid .

17. Fit the filler plug (A) with a new seal.

Tightening torque, filler plug 40 Nm (30 lbf ft)


18. Disconnect Tech2 and the exhaust extractor.
