Baulk rings, removing and fitting

Note

The gearbox remains in place.



1. Remove the reversing light switch (2).


2. Remove the bearing housing cover (3) - see Bearing housing cover gasket, replacement F17 .

3. Remove the main shaft - see Bearing housing, dismantling and assembling, F17 .

4. Dismantle the main shaft. See Main shaft, dismantling and assembly, F17 .

Replace the pertinent baulk rings.



To fit

Note

If the synchromesh assembly has been dismantled, the following assembly procedure should be followed.



1. Fit the synchromesh assembly (3) into the synchromesh sleeve (2). Fit the sliding keys (1 and 5) with the open side towards the synchromesh assembly.


2. Fit the synchromesh spring (4). Check that the spring is correctly installed so that the free end (arrowed) is raised above the synchromesh assembly.

3. If this is not the case turn the synchromesh spring over 180° and refit.

4. The angled end of the synchromesh spring then grips in a sliding key.

Note

The 5th gear baulk ring is removed and fitted as described in service procedure Bearing housing, dismantling and assembling, F17 .


5. Assemble the main shaft. See Main shaft, dismantling and assembly, F 17 .

6. Fit the main shaft - see Bearing housing, dismantling and assembling, F17 .

7. Fit the bearing housing cover (2). See Bearing housing cover gasket, replacement F 17 .


8. Re-fit the reversing light switch (4) to the gearbox with a new sealing ring. Tightening torque 20 Nm.

9. Check the gearbox oil level. See Gearbox oil level, checking and correcting F17 .
