Metal noise from front suspension/brakes when turning at low speed
|
Saab 9-3 MY03 onwards equipped with 15", 16" or 16"+ brake system..
Customer complains of metal noise from front suspension/brakes. The
noise could be mistaken for a noise from wheel bearing.
Slow driving, turning steering wheel, change of driving direction and
in some cases when the brakes are applied slightly at the same time.
The brake protection cover has 4 reinforcement grooves and in some cases
when the brake shields are assembled onto the car, the groove locations can
unfortunately match the edge on the flat surface made for the wheel bearing
on the steering knuckle. When this happens, a slight movement in the cover
will make the grooves to ride on the edge, causing a metal noise to occur
Design changes will take place on the cover where 2 of the reinforcements
will be taken away (see pic).
1.
|
Loosen the 3 bolts retaining the wheel bearing.
|
2.
|
Tap slightly on top on the brake cover with a rubber hammer so
that the brake back-plate moves to its lowest position.
|
3.
|
Torque the 3 screws for the wheel bearing to 90 Nm + 45 degrees.
