Cleaning the outer roof, soft top

Cleaning

Warning
Read and follow the instructions that are included with the packaging for the recommended cleaning agent and impregnation agent. We recommend that you contact an authorised Saab workshop with regard to recommended cleaning agent and impregnation agent.

Never treat the soft top with hot wax or similar.

Never use petrochemical-based solvents for cleaning. Only use water together with a recommended cleaning agent. Petrochemical-based solvents could cause irreparable damage to the soft top.

Never use high-pressure washing to clean the soft top. Only use normal household water pressure.

Important
Only operate the soft top when it is clean and dry.

Do not open the soft top when it is damp. This could cause creases and pressure marks. If the soft top is very dirty then the dirt could cause visible chafing marks that cannot be repaired.

Only use water, recommended cleaning agents and a microfibre cloth if the soft top is already damaged otherwise the damage could be made worse.

With creases in the fabric, seams and window edges the direction of the cleaning action should move from the crease, the seams and the edges, and in towards the soft top.

The following applies if high-pressure washing is used:

on the car's lower section (up to the door handles) : max. pressure 100 bar and not closer than 20 cm.

on the car's upper section : max. pressure 100 bar and not closer than 80 cm.

Avoid automatic car washes

When the soft top is only slightly soiled the method described on the cleaning agent's packaging should be used. In which case no brush is required.

Check the soft top's water resistance now and then by spraying a little water on it. If the water does not remain as pearls but quickly disappears into the fabric then normal cleaning is recommended followed by waterproofing.

If the soft top is heavily soiled and the recommended cleaning method does not make a noticeable improvement, then proceed as follows.

The cleaning method that follows should only be used if the soft top is heavily soiled, and not more than twice per year.

1. Rinse off the bulk of the dirt with plenty of water.

2. Spray the soft top with the recommended cleaning agent and leave it to act for 15-20 minutes.

3. Move the washing brush forwards and backwards, not from side to side or in circular movements.

Use a soft brush, such as a clothes brush or a microfibre cloth so that the cleaning agent foams. Never use a brush with metal bristles.

Warning

Water hotter than 37°C can injure the skin, cause skin irritation and/or injury. Use suitable protection.

4. Then rinse the soft top with hot water and brush with the soft brush in the longitudinal direction of the car until all foam is rinsed away. Brush carefully to avoid damaging the fabric.

5. Dry the soft top with a clean chamois leather or a rag that does not leave any fluff on the soft top.

6. Leave the soft top to dry completely. Feel by hand after a while, and if the fabric feels damp - leave it to dry further.

7. If stains are still visible then you can repeat the treatment on these stains in accordance with the previous description. Press gently with the brush to avoid damaging the fabric. Do not overdo the work with the brush. The fabric could be damaged in such a way that it cannot be rectified. Do not repeat the treatment more than twice.

8. When the soft top has dried it must be waterproofed as soon as possible. Only use the recommended waterproofing agent. Work in accordance with the instructions on the packaging.

9. In order to obtain an even and optimum waterproofing the car should be kept closed for 24 hours following the treatment. Do not touch the fabric or place any objects on it.
