Generator L Terminal Control Circuit, Short to Ground
Fault symptom
Charging lamp on with engine running.
Higher idling speed.
On-board diagnosis
Type of diagnosis:
Enable criteria:
Fault criteria:
Lead between control module pin B16 and generator pin 1 (D+) short circuit to ground for more than 3 s. |
(Which can be due to either the charge regulator pulling down the L terminal voltage level, to indicate a fault in the generator, or to a short circuit in the cable.) |
Dependent:
System reaction to a fault:
Control module continues working with the higher idling function. |
OK report:
Fault criteria NOT fulfilled for 61 s. |
Fault handling:
Type III without Check Engine. |
(See section Fault handling III, "Other emission-related components and functions" for more information.) |
Checking the wiring harness
Move the wiring harness at several spots and in several directions to reveal intermittent breaks and short-circuits. Check switches, connectors and crimp connections for oxidation, retracted pins and pin clamping force.
